New Kitchen on the Cheap!

Before we move into our new house (yay!), it's our plan to remodel the kitchen and dining area. The current set up is pretty bad...a galley kitchen with beat up cabinets, a carpeted formal dining room, and a living room that connects to one end of the kitchen. Basically, it's a segmented, maze-like mess. It's our vision to break down the kitchen wall and turn it into an island, and then open up the dining room and living room, making the whole space into one "great room".
Which brings me today's blog post. We've been thinking a lot about cabinets, color schemes, etc., but I haven't really put anything down on "paper" until today. Our style is pretty laid back...we want a kitchen we can live with for a long time, that can grow with our family, and that won't look dated in 20 years. We like color, clean lines, and a modern meets vintage feel. Here's what I've come up with so far. Everything comes from either Overstock or Ikea. Although not exactly cheap, it certainly won't break the bank, either!

Or the second option...

Which do you prefer?

LOVE #2! I'm a fan of that green color, and I love the black and white tile. :-)

I originally really loved the first one because I am big into ocean-y colors.. but do love the lime green too. But looking at the second one, it might be more versatile for whatever "pop" of color you decide you need down the road - then you can switch it up a bit :)

i'm a big fan of #2...love the lime green accents and white cabinets :) have you considered black counter tops? then the reverse for the island (black cabinetry and the counter top color you have in the picture)...either one you pick it I'm sure it will look great!

Tracy...Hi...hey....do you ever check the statistics of where people live that check out your blog? I find it fascinating that people in France, Slovenia and Vietnam read my blog...
Anywhooo, about the colors for the kitchen. The blue/tan colors remind me of the ocean and also Julia Childs kitchen( her blue was brighter tho). The White/Black/Green kitchen seems more retro...I like it and the white /black one you could interchange your "pop" colors easier.
The blue one seems calm the white one more stimulating...so do you want to be calm/nurturing or creative and eat more? (lol)
What does your Mom say? She has such a good eye for color.

I like both, but I have to say I like #1 the best. The cabinets with the backspash, plus that little pop of red from the kettle...love it!
